About this Entry
Dec. 30th, 2004 @ 10:56 am Happy Holidays!
Last week I got a promotion - I'm now a Programmer / Analyst III. I used to be a Web Developer, which is the absolute kiss of death career-wise ("Great! Can you update my sister's webpage for Beanie Babies? She wants more blinking text..."). I'm also in the International department now, so I will be working on projects for remote and exotic places worldwide. Which means that when everybody else on my team gets to go to Brazil or Russia, I will get to stay at home, bitter.

I got Shaun of the Dead and The Office box for xmas, and then went a little mad boxing week:

$10 each:

Farcry
Ridge Racer V
Clock Tower 3
Fatal Frame
Wild Arms 3
Chaos Legion
Tsugunai
The Bouncer
Robot Alchemic Drive
FF Chronicles: FF 4 and Chrono Trigger

In celebration of my promotion and um, buying 10 games for $100, I vow to call in sick one day and play all 10.

I stopped by Beguiling and told Butcher that you (CHRIS) hated Scott Pilgrim. He felt bad and said you could bring it back. HAH HAH

Oh yeah, happy holidays!

Dec. 17th, 2004 @ 09:40 am Sequelpocalypse
I finished Metal Gear 3 last night - wow! That was really what I needed after #2. I love it and it's great and you should play it.

For those keeping track:

Halo 2 - DONE.
Half Life 2 - DONE.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - DONE.
Dai Senryaku VII - POSTPONED UNTIL FEB!!! :(

So to console myself, I traded in 8 stupid games at Blockbuster for Ace Combat 5 and Prince of Persia: Darker than Dark. Also, I traded in my old and saggy PS2 + $80 for a sexxxy young slim PS2 at EB. That shit is hottt!

So I have sequel after sequel waiting to be played:

KOTOR II (thanks blockbuster!)
Ace Combat 5 (thanks blockbuster!)
Prince of Persia: DTD (thanks blockbuster!)
GTA: San Andreas

And! Have you ever used a 3rd party controller that didn't suck? (PSST Japanese ones don't count) Me neither. But logitech has a new line of wireless controllers, which are - surprisingly - really, really good. Shocked! The PS2 version feels better than the standard PS2 one - fo reals! (Ditto for the XBOO version, but that's not saying much) My room is a den of 2.4 gig wireless insanity.

Dec. 13th, 2004 @ 05:58 pm WHAT IF...EA BOUGHT THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO THE NFL
Sitting around, talking about how bad EA is and dreaming up the worst, most monopolistic schemes possible - I would never, ever imagine this:

EA buys exclusive NFL rights for 5 years

Nobody else can make an NFL licensed game for any platform period - not even a cell-phone or an internet fridge - for the next 5 years. Wow.

Dec. 1st, 2004 @ 08:26 am Fit in or Fuck Off
3 weeks ago we had a meeting at work to discuss Java Training for the 15+ C and VB developers at work. There were some senior managers and the director from our department and a couple of developers with Java experience. During the meeting I asked "What if people don't take the initiative and put the effort into the training we give them?" The director replied "Well, it's Fit in or Fuck Off, really."

2 weeks ago, the director - who has been against working with the rest of our company internationally - was laid off, because he didn't fit in with the new world order.

Fit in or Fuck Off!

P.S. I've had 6 interviews in the last two weeks and I am TIRED.

Nov. 22nd, 2004 @ 10:00 am Hello!
I have been fucken busy! I know you all like to front like you're busy like me, but I'm busier fo sho! Lots of hilarious things happening at work, I will write out the details when I'm not at work and every keystroke is being logged...

Finished Halo 2 last week just in time to start up with Half-Life 2, which is just, wow. Half-Life 2 lives up to the hype, at least for me. So far it's the game of the season, we'll see how other games stack up. I picked up MGS 3 on the weekend ($57.50! EAT IT KINNON!) so that may be the next game I jump into.

P.S. I went to Futureshop about 30 minutes after it opened and they had printed up signs everywhere saying DS is sold out, blah blah no rainchecks. And the only game they had left was Project XX / XY.

Nov. 3rd, 2004 @ 10:36 am SHOWNED!
So I just came out of a meeting at work about the new monitoring software they're going to install. Here's a spiffy comment from Noknet, the spyware they're going with:

Properly monitoring and analyzing the stream of business information flowing from workstations plays a decisive role in managing key business functions.

Wow!

Now I need your help - give me some good suggestions on what to do on my work pc to get me in trouble, so I can say, "JUST TESTING TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS!"

Oct. 28th, 2004 @ 01:23 pm STRONGER than STRONG
On the packs of coffee in the lunch room there is a strength rating from 1 - 5. Italian and French were previously the heavy hitters at 5 (by comparison, breakfast blend is a 2). Today I tried Sumatra, which has a Strength rating of 5+!!!!

I have a taste in my mouth like dead rodent, now.

Oct. 28th, 2004 @ 11:31 am Do you really support the true lunar Islamic calendar?
I've been working on globalization issues for web apps lately, and I came across this in an FAQ for the ICUJ project:

3. Do you really support the true lunar Islamic calendar?

[long explanation of lunar Islamic calendar]

What all this boils down to is that the IslamicCalendar class does a fairly good job of predicting the Islamic calendar, and it is good enough for most computational purposes. However, for religious purposes you should, of course, consult the appropriate mosque or other authority.

Next time on obscure geek humour: Wasn't it funny when Geordi made that wry comment to Data about phase inductors in TNG episode 57?

P.S. there are 46,500 hits for TNG episode 57 - :-(
